The Management of Firestone Liberia has extended words of congratulations and appreciation to the education department of the company, administration, faculty and senior students of its senior high school for the excellent performance in this year’s WAEC administered examinations.

Speaking Tuesday, June 05, 2012 in Division 19, the Acting President and Managing Director of Firestone Liberia, Mr. Patrick Rodrigo, noted that the high marks scored by the students in the WAEC Exams came as a result of the hard work, commitment and dedication exhibited by the administration and teaching staff of the school, stressing that “They put in the best of their time and efforts for the students to come out with flying colors.”  He called on the teachers not to relent in their quest to ensure that the school remains among the best or becomes the best in the country. According to Mr. Rodrigo, since the announcement of the results by the WAEC Monrovia Office, he has been in what he called “a cloud of joy.” He further noted that “Our scores have always improved.”   The Acting President and Managing Director of Firestone Liberia also expressed happiness that a girl is among the four students of the Firestone Senior High School who came Division One, emphasizing that “I am interested in the education of girls. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that a girl is among the best in Liberia.” Mr. Rodrigo further urged students of the Firestone Liberia School System to continue to study hard and press forward for excellence, promising that Management will continue to provide the necessary support to educational authorities of its school system so as to keep it up to date for the betterment of the children. Speaking about the future of the school system, “We intend to make it the best not only in Liberia but the whole region; and we want our children to get the best of education they deserved.” Mr. Rodrigo observed.

It can be recalled that Management expressed similar sentiments to Student Saidu Konneh for his brilliant performance in the 2010/2011 WAEC Exams and studious attitude exhibited during his educational pursuit at the Firestone Senior High School. Student Konneh, currently enrolled at the University of Liberia, was the only student to obtain Division One in the last WAEC Exams (2010/2011). Management said at the time that, it was immensely pleased with the news of the excellent performance of students of the Firestone Liberia Senior High School in the 2010/2011 WAEC Exams. Out of the five students who obtained Division Two in the WAEC administered exams that year; four came from the Firestone Liberia Senior High School. Management views these developments as laudable for its school system and gives the credit to schools administrators, teachers and other support staff of the company’s education department for their dedication, commitment and patience displayed over the years in molding the minds of employees’ children who are future leaders of this country.

According to this year’s results as announced by the head of the WAEC Monrovia Office, Prof. Thomas Gaie, student Mildred C. Wilson of the Firestone Liberia Senior High School obtained the highest mark. Other candidates from the Firestone Senior High School who also obtained Division One are Steward Borbor, Lancelot K. Waka and Varney Armah. Nineteen(19) other students from the Firestone Liberia Senior High School also obtained Division II in this year’s WAEC administered examinations.

In separate interviews, the students said their success in the exams was due to the discipline, hard work, passion and commitment they exhibited towards their lessons, saying “We were not surprised by the results because we listened to our teachers and did those things that were required of us as students. The teachers taught us and we put in the time to come out successfully.” They expressed thanks and appreciation to the Management of Firestone Liberia for the level of support it continues to render the school system and the administration of the senior high school.

For her part, Student Mildred Wilson, the highest scorer in this year’s WAEC Examinations, expressed her desire to study geology at the university level, while the three other Division One obtainers hoped to pursue their university studies in the areas of geology, mining engineering and the oil sector, respectively. The Firestone Liberia Senior High School is one of the best high schools in Margibi County and the Republic of Liberia. It is fully equipped with a computer laboratory and a state- of- the- art science laboratories. The current Principal of the Firestone Senior High School is D. Mulbah Gayflor.  Firestone Liberia owns and operates its school system of 27 schools with nearly 16, 000 students enrolled, all of them children of employees who attend at no cost. Meanwhile, employees and residents spoken to following the results lauded the students of Firestone Liberia Senior High School for their brilliant performance.
