Three suspected adolescent armed robbers who had been fugitives for months for allegedly stealing an AK-47 rifle with 21 live bullets assigned to a Nigerian UNMIL officer have finally been arrested.
Police spokesman George Bardue said suspects Abraham Mulbah, 17, David Tamba, 16, and Lackay Forkpa, 16, were arrested Sunday in New Dolo Town in Firestone, Margibi County.
Bardue said the suspects stole the gun since April this year and eloped until Sunday when they were arrested.
He suggested that the defendants had plans to use the weapon to engage in armed robbery in the Firestone area.
“We cannot say much in connection with this incident now because our investigators are currently extracting statements from the suspects at the police headquarters.
“Although prime suspect Abraham Mulbah who is said to have led the mission to steal the weapon denied stealing it to engage in armed robbery, investigation is ongoing in connection with illegal possession of fire arms,” Bardue said.
