U$60,000 Needed For Senate FC

Amidst reports that the national team, the Lonestar, direly needs funding to sustain local and international players, Senators are pushing for the allotment of US$60,000 in the current budget to support their newly formed soccer team dubbed the ‘Senate FC.’

In a letter to plenary, Sen. Jonathan Baney, chair on Youths and Sports committee, told his colleagues Tuesday that the objective of establishing the ‘Senate FC’ is to “unify” the people around the country.

“Football has been a force for fostering unity. The Senate FC have made an impact in the football arena by travelling to Rivercess County to promote unity and sports amongst citizens” there, he said.

He said the team is “ready to extend this process to other areas in the country,” but added: “The team can’t achieve these set objectives without the necessary budgetary appropriation.”

Sen. Sumo Kupee, Senate chair on Ways, Means & Finance Committee commended his colleagues for the move, and suggested the communication should be forwarded to his committee for immediate action.

Senate President Pro-Tempore Gbezongar Findley said though the Senate should engage in extra curricula activities, there is need to be mindful about how they proceed with the issue of allotting money to the “Senate FC.’

“We need to be mindful,” he stressed Tuesday at a press conference.
