I’ll Take Hard Decisions
Barely one day after mounting the driver’s seat for another six years, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has unequivocally vowed to take tough decisions against government officials meant for improvement in efficiency.
She said some of her officials will laugh while others will cry due to those imminent tough decisions.
“I can say to you that in these six years Liberia will move forward. But I will take some hard decisions,” the President said Tuesday at the opening of the new US embassy at Greystone.
Speaking at the program attended by most of her offiaicials, the president said the decisions “will affect some people positively, positively and negatively”, as the audience acknowledged her statement with cheers.
But she quickly pointed out that those to be affected by the decisions “will see them in the true spirit of national patriotism”.
“But I think they will see it in the spirit in which, each Liberian no matter where you are and no matter what decision affects you, you still have a place, you still have a place to contribute to your country,” President Sirleaf explained.
The president called on Liberians to be hardworking and patriotic to make the next six years successful.
“Patriotism. That means each Liberian will be involved, each Liberian will participate in the remaking of the nation,” she stressed.
President Sirleaf: “Each Liberian will be committed to lift our country up, to recognize its shortcomings, and its falls, challenges but at the same time to be able to send forward those things that have not been accomplished and those things that have great potentials.”
She later praised the US government for constructing the new embassy and called on Washington to remain committed to its service to the growth and development of Liberia.
She commended all partners that are supporting her government especially the United States, which she acknowledged as being the biggest partner in Liberia’s development under her watch.
“They have touched the lives of so many Liberians from all sectors of our economy,” President Sirleaf noted.
She described the new US Embassy monumental memory for all Liberians who were affected and took refuge at the Greystone Compound during the civil wars.
