House Summons Broh Over Parking Fees
Members of the House of Representatives Thursday summoned Acting Mayor Mary Broh of the Monrovia City Cooperation (MCC) to appear next Tuesday to defend the exorbitant fees charged for parking vehicles in Monrovia without security assurances.
Rep. Ricks Toweh (Nimba) urged his colleagues the necessity to “call on the leadership of that City ordinance to come and show cause why they would collect (parking) fees and leave those properties (vehicles) vulnerable”.
The lawmakers summoned Madam Broh after Rep. Blamo Wesseh, complained in a letter saying, “Since the introduction of the City Parking Lot, I have observed that the city parking management team under the MCC remain adamant in considering the concerns of vehicle owners or customers.”
He charged that under the MCC parking management, the MCC and its parking team collect “high parking fees” without security assurance given vehicle owners or customers.
“I have also observed with grave concern that it is written on the ticket issued to vehicle owners that their ‘parking is at their own risk’, which is not encouraging. Under such management, there is no security guaranty for vehicle owners or customers,” the letter added.
Rep. Wesseh, therefore, called on the House Plenary to summon the city management team through the MCC to show cause why the fee is high, when they cannot provide security for their customers.
Despite diverse views expressed during a subsequent debate, Speaker Alex Tyler instructed the chief clerk to summon Acting Mayor Broh to appear next Tuesday along with two management personnel responsible for collecting parking fees
