‘Sexy’ Jurors Warned
As dress codes often conform to certain occasions, ceremonies and professions, Judge James W. Zotaa of Criminal Court “A” has candidly warned several prospective jurors to be mindful about their dress code in court or risk being dropped from the panel of jurors during this February Team of Court at the Temple of Justice.
“The clothes you (jurors) wear in court can be tempting. We are all humans and can be tempted by the way you dress especially the women,” he staid at the opening of the February term of court here Monday.
Judge Zotaa said, “The way you female jurors dress during court proceedings can sometimes distract the mind of judges as well as the court.”
“We will love to see the jurors dress simple. A simple dress code represents the court but wearing short dresses, blouses or shirts was uncivilized for the court,” he stressed.
He maintained that the court was not a place for a sexy dress code, adding, “such a dress code during this term of court will not be considered”.
He further warned corrupt jurors risk imprisonment during this February term of court.
Judge Zotaa admonished jurors “not to see the court as place to come to make money, but rather to serve”.
“Let me remind you (jurors) that the concept of trial by jury is a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution. The decision you (jury) make has a serous impact on society—the impact could be positive or negative. So, do not take anything to render justice for someone,” he stressed.
