The state-run University of Liberia Wednesday put out a far less number of graduates than the 1,866 graduated in the previous academic year, with the Business College graduating 256 or over half of the 576 graduates this year.

This year however saw the graduation of 15 doctors and 39 in other sciences and 40 others graduated in agriculture and forestry, while Liberia College graduated 133.

Visitor to the university, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf emphasized the need for more graduates in needy areas such as medicine and the sciences, adding that the country needs more skilled people in these areas.

“Today you are putting out 144 graduates so highly needed by the country,” President Sirleaf praised UL officials, noting, “we have 16 new doctors, 12 pharmacists and 39 scientists in this number. This is good news because your country needs you most in these areas.”

UL President Dr. Emmet Dennis thanked President Sirleaf and urged her to increase government’s support to the University so as to enhance its professional capacity.
