Imam Denies Raping 14yr-old

Judge Evelina Quaqua Criminal Court “E” has upheld the unanimous
guilty verdict by jurors against Imam Momo Forley, and sentenced him 10 years to prison for raping a 14-year-old girl. Judge Quaqua pronounced the sentence Friday at the Temple of Justice here in the presence of Imam Momo Forley, saying prosecution proved its case against him. After jurors unanimously judged Imam Momo Forley guilty of rape a week ago, the Muslim cleric insisted that he was “wrongfully” prosecuted by the state for raping the teenage girl. “The girl is my girlfriend, but her family only wanted to damage my character,” he told reporters while en route to prison. Momo Forley: “At my age of 60 years, I will serve my 10- year jail sentence; but the truth will be unearthed one day with Almighty Allah’s blessing.” Government indicted Iman Momo Forley, a resident of Clara Town, in August 2009 for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl whom he claimed was his girl friend. Meanwhile, Criminal Court “D” judge Emery Paye on Friday sentenced Saah Nyumah and Jacob Kanneh to five years each in jail after they confessed in court to committing armed robbery. Judge Paye said he reduced their sentences from 15 to 5 years due to their open confession in court. He said, despite the confession by the defendants, prosecution proved its case against them. But their actions involved no death, rape, property damage or injury, to be established during the trial”. He said the court was lenient on Saah Nyumah and Jacob Kanneh due to their youthful age. Both men committed the act on 11 March 2010 on the SKD Boulevard in Paynesville about 6:15 am while their victims, Lucy Gibson and her friend, were scrambling for car to go to work in Monrovia. The indictment claimed the defendants had a knife and other blunt weapons threatening to kill if the ladies refused to surrender all valuables in their possession.
