Preliminary results of the presidential runoff elections have been released, showing President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf with 513, 320 constituting 90.8% of the … votes and her rival, Congress for Democratic Change’s (CDC) with 52,071, constituting 9.2% of the votes after his party bowed out of the polls.

With 86.6 % of the total polling places reporting, this effectively confirms President the winner.

NEC said 598 polling station remain to be counted, constituting 13.4% .

Total votes counted amount to 565391, with 51, 673 invalid votes.

The National Elections Commission (NEC), releasing the first figures Thursday amidst tight UNMIL security, said 25% of the voters did not cast their votes as they did in the first when 16 candidates and hundreds of legislative contestants.
