Unity Party candidate, Mr. Gabriel Nyenka, has won the Montserrado County District #11 by-election held Tuesday.
According to an official announcement from the National Elections Commission, Mr. Nyenka won with 2,362 votes or 27% of the total 8,460 valid votes while the candidate of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) received 1,142 votes or 13.5% of the total valid votes.
CDC Rep. Moses Tandanpollie occupied the seat before he died while attending a legislative retreat in Gbarnga Bong County.
Acting NEC Chairman, Cllr. Elizabeth J. Nelson presented the winner certificate to Representative-elect Nyenka Thursday after he was declared winner of the by-election, which was conducted under the simple majority rule validated by the last constitutional referendum.
More than 10 candidates contested for the District #11 seat, which was out rightly won by Mr. Nyenka, who earlier resigned as deputy Internal Affairs minister but failed in his first bid for the legislature during the 2011 presidential and legislative elections.
Independent candidate Edward Zoedua came the least with nine votes.
