The Acting Mayor of Monrovia City, Ms. Mary Broh risks being fired if President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf accepts a recommendation from the Liberian Senate to dismiss her.

On Tuesday, the Senate  overwhelminly passed  “a vote of no confidence” in ,  Ms. Mary Broh , acting mayor of the Monrovia City Coorporation and informed President Sirleaf to relieve her from the  post with immidiate effect.

“Mary Broh has been behaving as if she is above the law...she has been seen on several occassions calling herself a general,  demolishing without prior notice structures that Liberians struggled over the years to construct. She has rendered so many Liberians homeless...

“I strongly  believe that she doesn’t want to appear and I will suggest to the Liberian senate to pass a vote of no confidence and request the President to have her removed,” Senator Prince Johnson (Nimba County) urged his colleagues  prior to the vote.

Senators took the vote of no confidence after Ms. Broh failed to appear before them for inquires into alleagtions that she  slapped an employee of the senate  despite receiving two  letters citing her to appear on Tuesday.

After her failure to appear before them on Tusday morning on claims that she “is ill”, the senate extended it’s sessions and wrote the Acting Mayor informing the  sergeant-at-arms to take the letter to her office and mandate her to  appear at 2.p.m. But the sergeant-at-arms returned saying that Mary Broh  was out of her office.

Senator Cletus Wortorson (Grand Kru County), former Senate President Pro-tempore said that Madam Broh’s refusal to appear before them as demanded was an “affront” adding: “She told her friends that she ain’t comming no where. It happened to the lower house, it will not happen here.”

Senator Abel Momolu Massaly blamed the senate for the “unruly behavior” of  Mayor Broh, noting: “There is no need for the senate to have allotted money to her in the prvious budget since infact the status of Acting Mayor Broh is not legal under the constitution.”

“She has not gone through senate confirmation, she is given money, and she is doing lot of bad bad things to our citizens. It is against this background that I said we have give the latitude to Mary Broh to do what she is doing,” he said.
