After Dr. Momolu Getaweh, vice president for UL relations, Friday announced closure of the University of Liberia following days of bloody student riots over leadership elections, police have cordoned the university’s Capitol Hill campus.
The rear entrance adjacent Stella Maris Polytechnic and the main gates opposite the Capitol Building were locked and bolstered with chairs to prevent access to the campus.
Witnesses said the Fendall campus is also sealed off as no-go area for students.
One assigned police officer suggested that sealing off campuses of the University was a firm action taken by the UL administration to protect properties of the institution against elements that vandalized those campuses during the riots.
“We are here to ensure calm on this campus,” he said.
Meanwhile, UL vice president for administration, Dr. Wade Brownell has suggested expulsion for students who are “causing problems as broken glasses among diamonds at the University of Liberia.”
