Jurors Split Over 1.8M Coca-Cola Theft Case

The just ended Liberia Coca-Cola Bottle Company US$1.8m trial was returned Wednesday for new trial after three jurors dissented with the guilty verdict handed down by their nine colleagues against four former employees of LCCBC.
The state indicted George Paye, Emmanuel Tyler, Tonia Kparteh and Sam Oyee for allegedly stealing US$1.8 million from LCCBC, a claim the accused have since denied.
The clerk of court read the verdict, saying three jurors dissented with the guilty verdict handed down by the nine others against the defendants, thus resulting to a hung verdict that calls for ‘a new trial.’
A 4-page indictment charged the defendants of stealing the money as a “team through employee-to-employee basis in collaboration with the Management of Exclusive Supermarket and the UN Drive Supermarket”.
It accused former LCCBC Accounts Manager George Paye of criminally strategizing with these business centers to dupe the Company of US$1.8 million.
The indictment says the actions violate 4LCLR, Title 26 Section 15.56, 4LCLR Title 26, Section 10.4 and 4LCLR Title 26 of the statutory laws of Liberia.
The defendants allegedly committed the act in 2011 and were indictment in 2012 but have been on criminal appearance bond even during their trial.
