Mr. Maurice G.V. Pelham was charged with terroristic threat and remanded Friday at the Monrovia Central Prison pending trial after he allegedly threatened to kill his younger sister, CDC Rep. Munah E. Pelham (Montserrado-district #9)
According to police charge sheet, Rep. Pelham of the Congress for Democratic Change complained her older brother Maurice G.V. Pelham of threatening through a text message on cell #: 0886515526 to kill her.
On 1 May 2012 the administrator of the J.J. Ross Memorial High School called Rep. Pelham informing her that a tenant of defendant Maurice Pelham broke a pipe leading to the school’s septic tank causing a serious pollution problem.
But when Rep. Pelham instructed the tenant to remove his pipe from the sewage line, defendant Maurice Pelham warned her to leave the tenant alone.
According to the police charge sheet, Rep. Pelham claimed that Mr. Maurice Pelham sent her a text message warning her of exhibiting the same attitude as her late brother Oso Pelham did which led to his untimely death.
The text message states: “YOU THINK THAT I WILL FOOL FOR THE SECOND TIME, THE FIRST TIME WAS OSO. UR REMEMBER THAT DAY WANT OSO CHOOSE TO FIGHT ME, HE CALL FOR HIS ONTIME DEATH…REMEMBER I’M A MAN OF GOD AND UR BROTHER. U TOO SMALL, SHOW RESPECT…” [sic].
Defendant Maurice Pelham confirmed sending said text message to Rep. Pelham, but said “the message was only intended to make her to reflect on the death of her late brother Oso Pelham after he disrespected me…but I did not mean any harm to her.”
Based on Maurice Pelham’s statement, police said he was charged with terroristic threat in violation Chapter 14, Section 14.24 of the criminal laws of Liberia.
