Read More...Strike At ADA
More than 50 employees of the collapsed Libyan-sponsored US$30 million agriculture project, ADA, in Foya, Lofa County yesterday entered their second-day of strike in demand for four months of arrears and benefits owed them.
The mechanized agriculture project collapsed following the overthrow and murder of Col. Moamer Kadhafi last year in the Arab Spring.
A spokesman of the 52 hopeless employees said they are demanding government’s intervention to pay their salary arrears and benefits or they would sell the company’s assets to pay themselves.
The spokesperson said the assets include yellow machines, tractors, agriculture implements which they could sell to pay themselves in case the government failed to address their plight in 72 hours.
Lofa County’s outgoing Supt Galakpai Kortimai told New Democrat Wednesday in a telephone interview that ADA’s stranded workers have been demanding pay arrears for some time now, “but I have personally urged them to remain calm.”
He revealed that Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, once during a visit to Foya, instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to intervene in the stalemate of the stranded employees of ADA.
