In pursuance of professional policing policy in the country, police authorities have disrobed and suspended 304 police officers with appropriate salary cuts ranging from two weeks to one month.

Police spokesman George Bardue said the affected officers were under suspension for being absent without official leave, or AWOL.

In a press statement released here Wednesday, Col Bardue said officers suspended include those assigned at the Patrol section, Police Support Unit (PSU), Emergency Response Unit (ERU), Traffic, Planning and Research, Motor Vehicle, National Police Training Academy, Crime Services Department, among others.

In another development, Col. Bardue said police in Nimba County have charged a man identified as Emmanuel Cooper Vaye, 22, with murder.

Vaye is accused of stabbing Abraham Sidiki Trawalay, 22, with a cutlass on the head in Bahn, Nimba County on 12 May 2012.

Police investigation records quoted the suspect as admitting that he stabbed the victim for “insulting me in the presence of my girlfriend while we were walking on the main street of Bahn Town.”

The victim bled profusely and was later pronounced dead by doctors on arrival at the Bahn Medical clinic.

In a separate development, the police Highway Patrol Unit has confiscated a huge quantity of marijuana and arrested two persons who were transporting the illicit substance.

Suspects Catherine David, 36, and Sekou Toure, 25, are detained at the police headquarters facing investigation at the Anti-narcotics Unit of the LNP, according to Col. Bardue.

He said the suspects were arrested early Wednesday morning at Fendell while transporting the drugs on a vehicle with license plate number TB-1364 from Nimba County to Monrovia.

Mr. Bardue disclosed that the vehicle, which is currently impounded at the Mount Barclay Police Station, is hired by Acellor Mittal and assigned in Nimba County.
