The failure of state prosecutors to appear in court Friday constrained the Monrovia City Court to postpone the trial of AFL soldiers Alex Dolewon and Harris Williams indicted for allegedly killing Police Special Unit (PSU) officer Henry D. Freeman last year.
Alex Dolewon and Harris Williams were charged with murder in 2011 after allegedly stabbing Henry D. Freeman to death in Paynesville.
But City Solicitor Sam T. Solomon later told New Democrat Friday that the Supreme Court’s handing down of opinions and the qualification new councilors-at-lawyer requiring the presence of judges caused his absence in court.
“We are not afraid of trial. This government has good record of respecting the rights of its citizens as well as foreign nationals. No lawyers will want to boycott the highest court occasion. We will ask for new assignment in order go into this case as soon as possible,” he pointed out.
Police charge sheet says the victim was stabbed to death on 5 July 2011 after being accused of having sex with Esther Annason, a fiancée of one of the murder suspects.
It revealed that the victim first loved to Esther Annason before she fell in love with Alex Dolewon, the AFL soldier.
According to the charge sheet, the AFL solider had suspected for months that his fiancée was having love affairs with the PSU officer, whom he warned in a text message to stop the relationship or he will kill him.
The recipient of the threat reported the matter to his mother, Bendu Cooper.
But the leak apparently angered suspect Alex Dolewon who moved with his friend Harris Williams to Plant Filed Red Light where they allegedly stabbed the police officer to death.
The defendants’ action is violation of Chapter 14 Section 14.1 of criminal laws of Liberia.
