Credit plans are underway to resuscitate and recommend action on 72 audit reports forwarded to the 52nd legislature by the General Auditing Commission GAC).
“We have about 72 audit reports. And those reports have not been reviewed adequately; so what we are doing now is to compile those reports and form a secretariat to review them, and start public hearings to make recommendations to the Chief Executive for execution,” said Sen. Edward Dagoseh, Chair on the Senate Committee on Public Accounts.
GAC audit reports are forwarded to the legislature for scrutiny before recommendations are made to the President for appropriate action.
But Public Accounts Committees of both houses of the 52nd Legislature failed to take action on more than 70 audit reports submitted to it by the GAC under Mr. John Morlu.
Sen. Dagoseh told this paper Thursday that the execution of the GAC audit reports is a “pertinent issue to us as a Senate and talks are now ongoing with major partners to commence work on the execution process for the reports.”
“All the GAC audit reports would be looked at. They would be reviewed through public hearings where the public would be invited,” he said, but added that World Bank funding would be sought to implement the project.
