In a bid to address security issues along Cote d’Ivoire’s border with Liberia where deadly clashes have been reported recently, the Ivorian government has supplied new and sophisticated equipment to the battalion stationed at the common border, the national daily Fraternite Matin reported in Abidjan.
Quoting Ivorian Defense Paul Koffi Koffi, the paper said the equipment which comprise army vehicles and other logistical support materials, will allow the Ivorian troops to respond to attacks such as the one that claimed the lives of seven peacekeepers last month.
“Today our army has the minimum...They are more mobile now and able to react more timely in the event of attack,” the paper quoted Koffi Koffi as saying Monday during the handover ceremony in Abidjan.
