A bill that would have made corruption an unbailable offense was ridiculed in the Senate Thursday, with some senators vowing that it will not be passed until 2021, if at all.
Senator Sando Johnson (National Patriotic Party-Bomi County) took the floor and declared, “Our children will pass it in 2021”.
He said the bill, seen by many as a step for arresting spiraling corruption and misuse of public funds, is intended to ‘falsely incriminate people’ and throw them in jail.
There was uproar of support in the senate as the senator voiced his opposition, with many of his colleagues nodding their heads in agreement.
Senate President Pro-tempore Gbezongar M. Findley told plenary that the bill was already in Committee Room and moved that it be forwarded to the Committee on Judiciary for study.
But with the storm of opposition against the bill, it is unlikely to leave the Committee Room without major alterations.
