EU Boosts Peace & Security In Liberia

The Liberian government and the European Union have opened a dialogue focusing on regional peace and security as well as strengthening regional integrity in the Mano River basin, ECOWAS and the African Union.

Other issues expected to be covered include discussions on the International Criminal Court’s enactment into domestic law of the ICC Convention to be held by Liberia, climate change, and economic partnership agreements, amongst others.

The meeting is also anticipated to highlight sustainable energy issues embracing Liberia and other African countries.

Finance Minister Augustine Ngafuan, who represented Liberia, urged all parties at the discussions to commit themselves to the terms of the agreements.

Mr. Ngafuan expressed hopes that the dialogue will yield productive and mutual benefits that will continue to grow the relations between Liberia and the EU.

He reassured the EU community about Liberia’s unflinching support in fostering the bond of friendship, saying: “Liberia stands by the EU to eradicate global poverty and injustices whilst striving to uphold the rule of law and the respect for human right.”
