Police, Others In U$150,000 Bank Heist

Following months of intense investigations, Police Inspector General Chris C. Massaquoi affirmed that his Deputy Chief for Organized Crime Unit Amos Soumie alias R4 and Capt. Syvenius Commonly of the Anti-Robbery Section alias 4-1-9, along with suspect Charles Gray have been indicted in connection with the LBDI US$150,000 armed robbery attack in Walker’s Town on Buchanan highway.

Col Massaquoi revealed the indictment Friday during a press briefing, saying, the accused police officers facilitated the escape of suspects in the bank robbery from the crime scene by giving them a lift on the Police Anti-Robbery Vehicle that bulldozed all police roadblocks mounted on the highway in anticipation of arresting the suspects.

“They have been charged with armed robbery and awaiting to be transferred to Grand Bassa County for prosecution where the crime took place,” Massaquoi stressed.

Six other suspects earlier arrested are in the custody of the Circuit Court in Grand Bassa County awaiting the rest of the suspects to join the trial.

“We would like to reiterate that this administration would not condone any act of unethical or criminal behavior on the part of any officer of the LNP.

“We can assure the public that the LNP under our watch will continue to uphold the mandate for which it was established—the protection of lives and properties as well as preservation of law and order,” he stressed.

In June 2012, several armed men attacked an LBDI van in Walker’s Town on Buchanan highway transporting US$150,000.
