UNMIL Radio announcer Sharon Vincent Avorkliya, who court officers said had been evading arrest for days, was arrested finally on Friday and nearly remanded at the Monrovia Central pending court trial, safe for an appearance bond. According to a writ of arrest from the Monrovia City Court, suspect Avorkliya is charged with theft of property after Mr. Joseph Robert Mensah complained that she received US$15,000 from him in 2009 under the pretext of selling a parcel of land to him. But she neither provided the land nor refunded Mr. Mensah’s money. According to the writ, the alleged action of defendant Sharon Vincent Avorkliya is unlawful in violation of Section 15.51 of the criminal law of Liberia. Meanwhile, defense lawyers secured a criminal appearance bond for suspect Avorkliya for her temporary release in order to appear for trial Thursday.
