‘Stupid People’

User Rating: / 0

Grand Cape Mount County Senator Abel Momolu Massalley has referred to his critics in the county as “stupid people” for questioning his record over handling financial matters affecting the county.

“The people who are making this allegation are very stupid. They are very ignorant. They’re stupid. Quote me verbatim, record me and quote me in front of them. Say Sen. Massalley said, if you don’t understand something, you ask,” the lawmaker reacted.

The Senator got infuriated after some citizens of Cape Mount accused him and some former officials of the county allegedly awarded a US$1 million road project to a company but that company failed to do the project. They also accused him of awarding the management of Hotel Wakorlor in Cape Mount to another company without any ‘bidding process.’

In reaction last week at the Capitol Building to the allegations, Sen. Massalley who chairs the Grand Cape Mount County legislative Caucus denied the claims, and said “only stupid people” make such allegations.

He said he couldn’t “unilaterally” award contract to companies without the consent of other county officials.

“Those roads are abandoned because we can’t pay the people (contractors) their money. The government has not transferred any money to the county development account. These were projects that were approved by the county development council.  No one can just go and unilaterally award contracts, “ he clarified.

He said some payments were made to a specific company to construct roads in the county, adding: “some payments were made but we owe them (the company) more money. I did not make that payment. We approved as a caucus. Not the chair alone can approve.

Regarding the management of Hotel Wakorlor, Sen. Massalley said, “It is for the people of Cape Mount. It is not for government. “I see no reason why it should go through a bidding process. No, it shouldn’t. That Hotel was built by the taxes of our people. It’s for the people of Robertsport. We wrote the PPCC and they told us that the thing belongs to the county and all of this kind of thing.”
