VP Boakai Extols Tom

Versatile Liberian journalist, Tom Kamara, who worked assiduously for social justice in Liberia for decades, was Sunday memorialized at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Gardnersville during a solemn service, attended by his widow, Mrs. Rachel Kamara, family members, Vice President Joseph N. Boakai and well wishers.

Funeral rites for late Tom Kamara were held last month at the same church before he was interred at Kaiser Memorial Lawn in Brewerville.

In his brief sermon, the Rev. Fr. G. Nyema Harmon, priest-in-charge of the St. Augustine’s Church, thanked “God for this great service that we are having in loving memory of our son, brother, father and nephew, Tom Kamara.”

“As we gather here today for this memorial service, I want to call on you to have endurance,” Fr. Harmon consoled the bereaved family.

“Like Mr. Tom Kamara did, I want you to be persistent in whatever you do, holding on till the end once it is the right thing that you are doing. Do not waiver because of the circumstances. Always be prepared to go to the end because there is a great reward ahead of you.”

Vice President Boakai expressed sorrow to the bereaved family, and extended appreciation to all those who assisted during their period of bereavement.

“We want to thank all of you for taking another day to come for this service in memory of Mr. Tom Kamara, VP Boakai said.

“It is a great honor for this family and this Church. We are happy that this Church granted this opportunity to remember Tom. We want to thank you for this opportunity and say that we will miss Tom a lot,” he added.

Mrs. Rachel Kamara thanked St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church for the service, the government of Liberia, family members and friends who consoled her during her bereavement.

Mr. Tom Saah Kamara, who served as managing editor and publisher of the New Democrat Newspaper, died 8 June 2012 in Brussels following a brief illness.
