Tears

A passion of tears suddenly overwhelmed Roberts International Airport when SN Brussels’ regular Sunday flight touched down with the casket bearing the remains of Tom Kamara, managing editor/publisher of the New Democrat newspaper.

Liberian progressives that Mr. Kamara was an active member in the 70s, members of the publishers association of Liberia, family members, government officials and hundreds of sympathizers hardly controlled their tears when the plane touched down with Tom’s body.

Tom Kamara, 63, died on 8 June while undergoing medical treatment at St. Luc University Hospital in Brussels.

At the airport to receive the casket bearing the remains of their former boss were the staff and employees of the New Democrat Corporation dressed in white T-shirts bearing the portrait of Tom Kamara in the front while back reads: “New Democrat Staff says Your Legacy Lives!”

Scores of journalists, including members of the publishers association were decked out in white T-shirts embossed with the portrait of their late colleague, whose body they were at the airport to receive.

Many of the former staff on the paper during its genesis with Tom Kamara were also at the airport to receive the body of their beloved former boss.

His widow, Mr. Rachel Kamara, who escorted ailing Tom for treatment before his demise, accompanied the body Sunday and was greeted by family members, government officials and friends of her late husband.

Public Works Minster Samuel Kofi Woods, II, who traveled to Brussels to accompany the body home, represented the Liberian Government.

Upon arrival in Monrovia, Tom’s casket was deposited at the Samuel Stryker Funeral Parlors until funeral rites and interment scheduled on Saturday, 23 June, according to Mrs. Kamara.
